Run Explorer from My Computer

Double-clicking on Windows 95's My Computer icon brings up a mishmash of drives, printers, and the Control Panel. Wouldn't it be nice if double-clicking on My Computer brought up something useful--like Windows Explorer? That's easy to change.

  • Navigate in the Registry to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d8-08002b30309d}\Shell.
  • Right-click on Shell and choose New, Key. Type in 'open' and hit Enter.
  • Right-click on Open, choose New, Key. Type in 'command' and hit Enter.
  • Double-click on (Default), type in 'explorer /e, c:\windows' and hit Enter.
